Aquamarine

This month’s birthstone is Aquamarine, but I’m sure any Pisces already knew that.  Aquamarine is the lighter blue green variety of the mineral beryl while an emerald is the darker green variety. For those of you who are not aware beryl is a colorless mineral that acquires its color from naturally occurring impurities.

The word Aquamarine is derived from the Latin words “aqua marina” which means “sea water”. The metaphysical properties, or as I like to call it “natural philosophy” properties are  that it is the symbol of happiness and everlasting youth. Move over Botox.

Some mythological healing attributes of the aquamarine are that when mixed with water it alleviates eye problems, hiccups and shortness of breath.  In the middle ages people believed Aquamarine could actually cure poisonings.

Legend and folklore contend that Aquamarine was used as a good luck charm. Sailors are said to often bear Aquamarine because it kept them safe from the dangers of the perilous seas, as well as preventing the always fantastic sea sickness. It is also said that a wearer of this beryl has the gift to conquer wickedness.

Although we can’t legally promise that you will be able to fight off the wicked (in the form of bills, people, or what have you), we can certainly offer you some happiness. Some of our fabulous Aquamarine accessories will be sure to spice up your spring and summer.

Jewelry tip: Always put your jewelry on after the completion of hair and make-up. You don’t want potentially damage your jewelry with any of the oils and chemicals that could be sprayed or rubbed on to your jewelry.
